The Three Parts of Tawheed

Tawheed mans to believe in the oneness of Allah and worship Allah alone. It has three parts:

1. Tawheed Ar Ruboobiyyah

2. Tawheed Al Uloohiyyah

3. Tawheed Al Asma wa sifaat

1. Tawheed Ar Ruboobiyyah

Tawheed Ar Ruboobiyyah is the belief that Allah alone is the one who creates and provides for his creation (in terms of food, shelter, health etc). He is in total control of all the affairs of his creation. He is the to give life and cause death.

Almost everyone, except atheists and followers of animist religions, believes in Tawheed Ar Ruboobiyyah. If you were to ask Jews and Christians who created them and controls their affairs they would say God (Allah).

2. Tawheed Al Uloohiyyah

It is also known as Tawheed al ibaadah. It is the belief that all acts of worship are for Allah alone and are only directed towards Allaha subhana wa taala. We must not pray, worship or ask of our need to anyone but Allah. Since He is the sustainer of all creation, all our calls to help must be directed to Allah alone.

It is the belief that none but Allah is able to comfort us when we are in need. “It is the knowledge and the acknowledgement, that Allah is the sole Possessor of Divinity, and the One who has the sole right to be worshipped over all His creation. (And) that He alone should be worshipped by them—all of them—and they should make the religion sincerely and purely for Allah alone.”
3. Tawheed Al Asma was sifaat

It is the belief in Allahs names and characteristics and attributes. For example, Allah has called Himself Ar-Rahmaan, we have to believe firmly, without any doubt that indeed Allah is most Merciful. There are 99 names of Allah, we must believe in each and every one of them. Such as He has described Himself as and what His Messengers have told us. In addition, no person or thing has any share of these characteristics (no one else or thing has these qualities). Believing in this type of Tawheed also means that we don’t try to change the meaning of them.

May Allah fill our hearts with great Tawheed.
